The Audience Favourite award is awarded to the student who receives the most audience votes during the gala evening of the showcase.
The Spotlight Award is solely awarded to first year students, recognizing excellence in interactive design and intangible qualities such as originality, execution, and enjoyability.
CEO of Revolution Software
Charles Cecil MBE has over 30 years experience in games. In 1990 he founded Revolution, today one of the world’s leading adventure game companies. Charles is a BAFTA Cymru award winner for BBC’s Doctor Who games, and was nominated for a Writers’ Guild award for Broken Sword - The Angel of Death. He Executive Produced Sony’s The Da Vinci Code game, and Robert Zemeckis’ Christmas Carol. Charles sits on the BFI and Screen Yorkshire Boards, is a visiting lecturer at York University and NFTS.
Charles has a particular interest in the narrative and aesthetic aspects of Interactive Entertainment and how this medium will develop with advancing technology. He regularly talks at national and international conferences and to mainstream press about creative and commercial aspects of the video games industry.
Head of Science City York
Heather is currently working for Science City York, part of Make it York, working with businesses in digital, creative, and bioscience industries, helping to accelerate innovation in the city via organisational support, projects, and lively events.
Her current goals are to help enable York to become one of the most innovative cities in the world through building capacity, infrastructure development, support for collaboration, providing intelligence and brokering relationships between York’s innovative companies and national and international partners.
Director of DC Labs
For most of his academic career, Marian has been involved in interdisciplinary research that lies at the intersection of computer sciences and artificial intelligence with areas of creative industries, including film, television, theatre, and art. This is the vision he had at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he worked on the development of creative computing as a new area of research and teaching, and now at York, working on the development of Interactive Media.
As Director of the DC Labs, he is fostering this vision in the space that lies between two fundamental forms of human interaction: storytelling and play. He has worked on the creation of new forms of mediated storytelling that are able to automatically adapt or respond to the contexts in which they are experienced, in conjunction with developing new tools and technologies that support their authoring and distribution, leading research in these areas totalling over thirty million pounds.
IM Showcase Director 2018
Joe directed the Interactive Media Showcase in 2018 and set a high standard for our future annual Showcases. He graduated Interactive Media the same year with a passion for user experience design and web development.
Rebecca was part of the first cohort of Interactive Media students and graduated in 2017. Since then she has worked with Pilot Theatre on Traitor VR, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019. She has also worked as a developer for BBC R&D and BBC Wales.
